Speed and distance return in the selected result unit, followed by the three alternatives. Time returns as hours:minutes:seconds plus decimal-hour, minute, and second totals.
The displayed formula substitutes the normalized numbers actually used by the solver. More digits are retained for arithmetic than may be useful in a field measurement; formatting trims trailing zeros and rounds only the visible conversion.
Choose Time, Speed, or Distance. The unknown input group is removed and, where needed, its result-unit selector appears above the two known groups.
Decimals are accepted. For time, combine hours and minutes and optionally seconds. A blank time field contributes zero, but the complete known time must be greater than zero.
Use the primary answer, then inspect the alternative units and substituted formula. Copy the summary or share the fragment only after checking the two source measurements.
This page performs plain arithmetic. It has no routes, airports, wind or current model, live traffic, elevation data, or pace training plans. If real conditions change during a trip, use measured totals and treat the solved speed as an average.

Because a knot is a nautical mile per hour, equal hour and knot values make this example easy to check.
Total distance divided by total time gives an average. It does not reveal instantaneous speed, stops, acceleration, wind, traffic, or the shape of a route.
Division cannot use zero speed or zero time. The shared solver returns a written error, which replaces the answer and conversions rather than allowing NaN or Infinity into the result panel.
Distance may be zero. With a positive known speed it produces zero travel time; with a positive known time it produces zero average speed. That is a mathematical result, not a statement about movement conditions.
Unit precision does not improve measurement precision. A converted answer can show several decimal places, but its real accuracy remains limited by the entered totals.

The engine converts the known values to meters and seconds before applying the selected formula.
A knot is one nautical mile per hour. One nautical mile is 1,852 meters, so one knot is 1,852 meters per 3,600 seconds, or about 0.514444 meters per second. Knots are simply another speed unit here; the tool does not add marine routing, wind, or current data.
A solved speed is an average over the entered distance and time. It says nothing about moment-to-moment acceleration, stops, traffic, or changing conditions. If a dashboard reports an instantaneous reading, that is a different measurement and cannot be reconstructed from only one total distance and one total time.
Yes. A distance in miles can be paired with km/h, or another supported combination. Each quantity is converted internally to SI units, the arithmetic is performed there, and the answer is converted to the requested unit. Keeping the printed units beside each number makes mixed-unit work auditable.
